Memoir by Thompson concerning a journey from Rawlins Springs to Bitter Creek, Wyo., in 1867, with "Mr. Brown," a surveyor working for Union Pacific Railway; the hardships of the journey; and a conflict with Sioux [Dakota] Indians that resulted in the death of Brown; with information on the Overland Stage Line and the Spencer repeating rifle. The letter concerns the manuscript.
